Hello!
If you’re here, it’s probably because I sent you here because I wanted to hang out with you at some point and it was useful to have a reusable list of stuff I like doing.
Things to know
I’ll chat over text for a bit if it makes you more comfortable, but generally I’m more comfortable talking with my voice than I am over text, so I’m happy to jump into making plans quickly, or we can schedule a call if you don’t want to meet up IRL before significant conversation.
I’m happiest when it takes less than an hour for me to get to where we’re hanging out from my apartment in Lakeview via walking/transit. You can use this google maps link from Ashland/Belmont + Lincoln to get a rough idea
I will never be upset if you pitch using my apartment as a place to meet up
COVID
I’m aware that COVID can totally fuck up your life if you don’t take any precautions and I really don’t need that on top of everything else, so I wear a mask in public indoor spaces/crowded public outdoor spaces (I like using a flomask).
- I will occasionally take off my mask to eat/drink inside as long as covid levels are low (I look here and the wastewater tab here), but not for long, if there’s an alternative I prefer that.
- If there’s fewer than seven people in a private indoor space (ie: someone’s apartment) I prefer not to wear my mask.
- For those more cautious than I am, I’m happy to increase my precautions/test beforehand/tell you what I’ve been up to the previous week, just let me know. FWIW, to the best of our knowledge, neither my nesting partner nor I have never gotten COVID 🤞
Activities
Activities will have emojis corresponding to what type of activity this could be.
🏙️ - Out and About
🏠 - At my apartment
🙇 - At someone else’s house/apartment
💻 - Over the internet.
Typically given the option to do the same activity online vs in-person, I prefer in-person, but I’d rather hang out online than not hang out!
Watching things
My apartment having a couch + single recliner setup means that if I’m hosting, “watching things” activities are Very Comfortable at three people, somewhat less so at four (though honestly this dip is negligible if a portion of the people are comfortable cuddling), and increasingly uncomfortable at higher person counts.
Movies 🏠🏙️🙇 💻
- Broadly, the one thing I try to avoid is movies with a strong medical/surgical component or vibe, particularly around teeth.
- I’m fine with gore, it just depends on presentation. I had no problems with Society but noped out of Raw.
- This doesn’t totally preclude things with a medical component, I love Synecdoche, New York, but it’s a good indicator that things might not work out
- letterboxd for reference of some things I like.
- Film festivals can be fun, as well as midnight showings like music box does.
Reality TV 🏠🏙️🙇
- Tend towards watching competition reality shows + occasional dating shows.
- A few shows I’ll definitely be watching with my partner if they’re airing. If you’re interested, you can come over on a date they’re airing and we can watch one!
- Survivor
- Big Brother
- The Traitors
- I’ve watched a bit of real housewives (season 1 of potomac, a few episodes of RHOBH starting with dinner party from hell), open to more but my bravo knowledge is definitely lacking. Happy to try out more bravo stuff, but you’ll need to do some infodumping if you want me to have context.
Other serialized shows 🏠🏙️🙇
- I like Dropout’s content, Dimension 20 might be a good thing for watching with a group?
- Besides that, I’d be potentially interested in getting together weekly to watch a “prestige drama” type show, like Severance or White Lotus or something.
- I like anime! I tend to be less receptive to shounen action than other genres, but that’s not always the case. I’ve had fun in the past doing binges with people, or having a weekly thing for a couple weeks where we make a “lineup” to watch, like 2-3 episodes of one show and the same of another, or one episode each of a few shows for a longer time. Here’s my anilist for reference.
Plays/Musicals 🏙️
- I was a theater kid, I’m largely down to get out of the house to watch a live production.
- Quite possibly down for a fathom events filmed-event-in-theaters type thing too, depending on the show.
Playing things
City-wide Hide and Seek 🏙️
I’ve been looking for people to play this hide-and-seek variant designed for playing in a full city with
Video Games 🏠🏙️🙇 💻
I’ve played a lot of modded minecraft in my day, always happy to start up another server of that!
Happy to buy a game to play with you as long as it’s like $30-40 or less, I have a macbook/PC connected to TV/switch/xbox, though as of 2025 I’m boycotting buying new XBOX games.
- RE: games I currently have, this is my steam library., and here’s a tool to compare your steam library to someone else’s
🏙️ Barcades tend not to be my favorite, there’s only certain arcade games I like playing for their own sake (ie: tetris + fighting games + some other multiplayer ones). I do like places where you win tickets to get prizes, I like trying to maximize ticket efficiency.
I like fighting games, I’m not that good at them compared to fgc people. Any inputs more complex than a dragon punch I can’t do, but my fundamentals are decent.
💻 my PC is currently plugged into the TV + I don’t have another monitor, so anything I’m playing should either be able to be played on Mac/a console or be OK with some extra latency.
I used to play Super Smash Bros Melee/Project M competitively, which means a couple things.
- I can generally beat people in smash bros games who haven’t done that.
- I don’t want to play with items or in free-for-all matches, I just won’t have fun with it!
Board Games 🏠🏙️ 🙇💻
- I have a decent-sized collection of games, and I’d be happy to play any of them I’m not trying to get rid of
- I’d be happy to play a pretty wide variety of other games too, so if there’s one you’ve been looking for players for, let me know!
- 🏙️ Places to play games at in public I’ve liked
Dice Dojo is good for playing games at + they have a massive lending library as well!
Every other Saturday there’s a “Queer Gaming Society” meeting here I often go to, here’s the dice dojo calendar for details
I’ve played at Bonus Round Board Game Cafe and liked it, plus they have a queer mixer on the third thursday of every month I’ve been meaning to try.
Riichi Mahjong 🙇 💻 🏙️
- I don’t currently own a mat/tiles for this, but I enjoy playing it, and I’m happy to teach it as well!
- I play with The Yakumen - Chicago Chapter and online via Mahjong Soul (and occasionally Riichi City)
It really needs exactly four players to play, (three is technically possible but it’s worse). I like it in that I think it encourages meetups to exist but it’s not going to be suitable in many circumstances.
Make-believe 🏠🏙️🙇 💻
I really enjoy playing in (and running) Tabletop RPGs. I got started on D&D 3.5E in 8th grade, and I’ve been playing games on and off since. I’d love to put together a one-shot or short campaign! Perhaps weirdly, perhaps not, but short campaigns tend to be a bit easier for me of the two options.
- I tend not to enjoy d20-based systems as much these days, some games I’ve played or ran and enjoyed include
- Blades in the Dark - “a tabletop role-playing game about a crew of daring scoundrels seeking their fortunes on the haunted streets of an industrial-fantasy city.”
- Scum and Villainy- “(a) game about a spaceship crew trying to make ends meet under the iron-fisted rule of the Galactic Hegemony.”
- Monsterhearts 2 - “lets you and your friends create stories about sexy monsters, teenage angst, personal horror, and secret love triangles. "
- GURPS 4e - a solid, generic “crunchy” system with a rule or way to stat up anything, but modular enough to ignore all the stuff you don’t need. The cyberpunk and super hero games I played in this were probably the longest lasting!
- Wanderhome - “a pastoral fantasy role-playing game about traveling animal-folk, the world they inhabit, and the way the seasons change. It is a game filled with grassy fields, mossy shrines, herds of chubby bumblebees, opossums in sundresses, salamanders with suspenders, starry night skies, and the most beautiful sunsets you can imagine.”
- There’s also various games I haven’t played but want to! Here’s a few (plus wanderhome, since that was the game my group picked when I made that list originally 😋), but honestly I’m very down to try out all kinds of games, if there’s one you’ve been meaning to play (that isn’t D&D, I’ve played too much of it!), feel free to pitch me!
I’ve been enjoying doing the occasional larp recently! I enjoy
- playing games,
- socializing, generally,
- working towards an objective with others,
- figuring out a person and crawling into their head,
and larps are often all of those! I’ve found that Goblin Market’s discord is good for finding them, I don’t think there’s a link on their site so I won’t post it here but it’s generally open if you want an invite!
Other things to play out and about 🏙️
- Trivia
- Also 💻 via jeopardy.app
- Mini Golf
- Laser Tag
- Escape Room
- Haven’t done one, always meant to!
- Blood on the Clocktower
- A hidden role game with 5-20 players, like Mafia on steroids. There’s various weekly games in the city.
Doing things 🏙️
- Going to concerts
- Broadly down to go to various concerts, if I don’t listen to the artist I’d want it to be < 50 dollars a ticket.
- Here’re some things I listen to music-wise!
- Going to various nerdy conventions
- Eating and/or Drinking and talking while doing so.
