Comic Update for May 4th, 2022

Here’s a listing of all of the comics I read today, as well as a few thoughts on each of them. Today is comic book release day! (Yay Wednesdays), so these are all single issues I picked up today, with the exception of Marauders #1 which was a reread.

Did I read any comics earlier in the day? Maybe! I don’t remember, so they aren’t on here. Anyways, here’s the list.

Title: Dune: The Waters of Kanly

Issue #: 1

Will I keep reading?: Absolutely not

Thoughts: A terrible issue of comics, genuinely thought about throwing it out. The art is decent but the writing wasn’t. It was pulled from a novel with all the skill of a Mirror/Moon TL.

Title: Metal Society

Issue #: 1

Will I keep reading?: No

Thoughts: Strong Megalobox Vibes from the human vs Machine fighting premise. The setting seems fairly interesting, I just wish the anti-human bigotry had any subtlety to it at all.

Title: Giant-Size X-Men: Thunderbird

Issue #: 1

Will I keep reading?: N/A

Thoughts: Really good! I was considering not picking this up since his previous portrayal had been so atrocious but I really enjoyed this issue! Exploring his heritage more was a smart move and well handled.

Title: Marauders

Issue #: Vol 2, Issue 1

Will I keep reading?: Yes

Thoughts: A fun space romp! I hate Cassandra Nova, it’s gonna take a lot for me to like her in this run. Excited to see a Erik the Red, intrigued by the central mystery!

Title: Marauders

Issue #: Vol 2, Issue 2

Will I keep reading?: Yes

Thoughts: Lockheed!! I’m not invested in the secret Shi’ar faction at all, but I really like Somnus/Darken/Aurora/Kate so I’m still in. Some solid horny mutant content this issue.

Title: She-Hulk

Issue #: Vol 5, #2

Will I keep reading?: Yes

Thoughts: not invested in Jack-of-Hearts but I like Jen!

Title: She-Hulk

Issue #: Vol 5, #3

Will I keep reading?: Yes

Thoughts: This series seems to have settled into “perfectly pleasant” territory. I might end up waiting a few months and read it on marvel unlimited, or get the back issues in a sale or something. We’ll see how I feel when the next issue drops!

Title: House of Slaughter

Issue #: 1

Will I keep reading?: Probably someday!

Thoughts: This is a spinoff series of Something is killing the children, which seems interesting, but is many issues deep at this point. Planning on getting around to reading it at some point, I was hoping this wouldn’t require much knowledge of the original. It… sort of doesn’t? I can follow it OK, but I feel like I’m missing a lot of nuance due to setting unfamiliarity. Going to try to read the original and circle back around.
